Weekly Work Planning Template

Productivity systems like Getting Things Done (GTD) don’t necessarily translate smoothly to a law practice. You need to be able to look at the “big picture” at a glance, not just your next task. After trying numerous things, I settled on a hybrid of GTD and a weekly paper work plan template.

Work planning is a weekly affair. I take Sunday night or Monday morning to sit down and type up my weekly work plan. The template has five days up top for Most Important Tasks (MITs) for each day, and below are a row for each case, broken up into columns for case, upcoming dates, do now, do later, and waiting for, the basic GTD action categories.

This work plan template serves as a case tickler as well as a catalog of important due dates and a holding cell for every task on every open file. For more information on how to use this template, see our post on the ultimate paper-based case management system.
