Lawyerist Builds Leadership Team to Focus on Community Building and Growth

Over the past three years, we’ve put a lot of effort into transitioning Lawyerist from an older business model built around digital publishing and blogging, to a new one built around growing an engaged community of small firm lawyers.

These transitions include the launch of the Lawyerist Podcast in 2015, the launch of our TBD Law events in 2016, and the launch of the new Lawyerist Insider community in 2017.

We have even more, and hopefully bigger, plans in store in the coming year and to help us lead these important new efforts, we’ve hired a number of amazing new Lawyerist team members who we want you to meet.

Stephanie EverettStephanie Everett, Community Director.

As the new Community Director, Stephanie will be creating new ways for the Lawyerist team to support solo and small firm lawyers building successful law firms. After law school, Stephanie practiced in Big Law before launching a boutique litigation practice in 2007 and growing it to a team of 20 in just under 7 years. In 2015, she decided to take her managing partner skills and help other lawyers who were struggling to start and grow their businesses. In 2016-2017, as the Executive Director of Lawyers for Equal Justice, she launched a lawyer incubator that empowers newer lawyers to start socially conscious law firms.

She is an adjunct faculty member at Emory University School of Law where she teaches Economics of a Legal Practice, has been recognized as a Super Law and Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine, a Legal Elite by Georgia Trend, and named to the 2017 Fastcase 50 list. Before joining Lawyerist, she was also a TBD Law alum.

Julie OlmstedJulie Olmsted, Community Manager.

Julie joins us as our new Community Manager, where she will lead our Lawyerist Insider community. She co-founded and managed a small law firm before opening a solo practice in 2015. In addition to her solo and small firm practice experience, Julie also has over a decade of experience in community outreach, event planning, and professional development. She has presented at national conferences, developed and implemented firm-wide attorney trainings, taught continuing legal education courses, and given dozens of community presentations.

She was recently named Favorite Woman Estate Planner and Favorite Female Attorney by Minnesota Women’s Press. Before starting this new position, she was a Lawyerist staff writer for two years.

Ashley StecklerAshley Steckler, Operation Director.

Ashley is a versatile operations professional and brings a firm track record of developing innovative strategies to promote organizational growth. She worked with the Children’s Advocacy Centers of ND as the Executive Director, overseeing statewide activities, programming, chapter development, and funding. As an Operations Analyst in nutraceuticals manufacturing, Ashley worked across disciplines to develop and deploy regulatory compliance programs and multi-organizational process flows, as well as managed new product development from concept to delivery.

Ashley earned her B.S. in Behavioral Science from the New York Institute of Technology. She obtained an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota, Mankato where she worked as a graduate assistant. She continued to pursue academic research in Ph.D. studies at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and is currently an adjunct instructor at Bismarck State College in Bismarck, ND, where she lives.

Lindsey CalhoonLindsey Calhoon, Production Assistant.

Lindsey leads many of our A/V production projects, including producing the Lawyerist Podcast and our video development projects. She is a senior at the University of Minnesota studying journalism with an emphasis in digital media and political science. She formerly co-led a student-run video production organization called StudioU, and previously worked at a variety of media outlets in the Twin Cities, including KSTP-TV, WCCO-TV, and CBS Radio.

When she’s not making things on the internet, she enjoys doing all the things young millennials like doing: photography, yoga, and watering her plants.
